As Julien seeks liberation in Paris, he is haunted by the memories of a fateful autumn on the banks of the Duchesnay River near Quebec City. Until then, his reclusive childhood had been centered on his protective mother, Pauline, and his sister, Hélène. A wild and beautiful young woman captivates both Julien and Hélène. She promises them freedom, but her reckless urgings turn ecstasy and seduction into bitter tragedy.

Review Summary: Tale of Tragedy and Loss
Date: 2001-03-18
Details: This is a spellbinding story of a young man recalling his past, and the person who changed his life. This was absolutely heartbreaking, and I really enjoyed. Being translated straight from french, the writing style is a little odd, but before you know it, you're into the story. This is really good book report material. I read this book when I was twelve but I'd recommend it for anyone over thirteen.
Review Summary: Must-Read
Date: 2000-04-15
Details: This book was the absolute best book I've ever read. It is a story of a boy who travels to Paris but retells his childhood. I found it hard to understand at first, but as I read on, I understood every word of it. I think this is a great book for all students who are my age, 12. It is an excellent read. A mixture of tragedy and romance and will touch your heart.
