Details: I bought these to replace a nearly identical pair of Columbia shoes I bought just over a year ago, and have been really happy with them.
They fit well (almost dead-on, in terms of sizing), and it only took a couple of days to really break them in. The construction is quite good, like most Columbia products, so you won't feel like they're going to fall apart on you after a few months.
I especially like the fabric they're constructed from. The shoes breathe very well (you really notice if there's a decent breeze going), but at the same time, you can absolutely wear them in the winter without freezing. Personally, I'd stay away from water, as they offer next to nothing to protect your feet from getting wet. (So, make sure you're on dry trails)
The tread, while aggressive, is perfectly fine for everyday wear, too.
